A Present Help

"What would you do in case of accident or emergency?" is a question often asked by those who do not understand Christian Science. This question betrays a lack of confidence in God as the great all-presence, the all-powerful Principle of the Universe. It is another form of the thought expressed to Jesus by Martha and Mary, "Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died." It puts God afar and intimates that at such times material remedies should be employed, at least while He is coming.

Strange to say, this manifest lack of dependence upon God is sometimes found among people who avow that He is Omnipresence (all-presence) and Omnipotent (all power). Forgetting that God is all presence, they rush frantically away in search of material aid which may be distant many miles.

The Christian Scientist realizes that in case of accident or emergency, nothing can be so near at hand as All-presence, and that nothing can be more helpful than All-power. His question would be, "At such times what would I do without Christian Science?"
