The Overcoming of Personality
To many of us there has come the thought that certain personalities precipitate errors for us, and so hinder our progress in solving life's problem. We are tempted to think that if we could get others to think and do right, or if our lot were cast with different surroundings, our own difficulties would be lessened. As well might a child, on reaching the problems of mathematics, wish to discard his arithmetic because of the seeming difficulty. If he continues studying, these tests of scientific intelligence will present themselves no matter what his topic, or how often he changes his teachers, until he masters his problems by application to the studies in hand.
So it is in life; whatever seems hard to overcome will be our master till we make Truth our own, then Truth will make us free from life's perplexities. Jesus came to earth in an uncongenial environment and ascended out of it. His ascension was reached on this plane and while surrounded by those who had made life so hard for him.
Jesus' followers contributed to his burdens. Had they fully realized that his work was to establish an eternal Principle of Life, to benefit all mankind, and that it was this Principle that they loved and obeyed, and not Jesus' personality, evil would have been robbed of its seeming vantage.
