A Friendly Critic

THE writer of the following editorial excerpts in the Newburg, N. Y., News, evidently has an imperfect understanding of the meaning of the phrase "mind-healing" as used in Christian Science, and he fails to make it clear that the effective healing Mind is not human mentality but divine Intelligence; nevertheless he evidences an advancing thought, and his judicial attitude is to his credit and will prove the open door to a clearer apprehension of Truth.

"The News is not an apologist for Christian Science. It acknowledges that it knows little about the cult and therefore is not in position to comment upon its theories and beliefs intelligently and exhaustively; but if our esteemed contemporary has given the subject study, its article signally fails to show it, as it consists of denunciatory statements that would be entirely without effect in the minds of people who love the truth and who when they are told that something is wrong demand the proof.

"The principle underlying Christian Science, as we understand it, is based upon the assumption that the mind is master of the body. This proposition is not to be scoffed at. Self-development is as yet an art in its infancy. The achievements of the mind in the development of the world are so wonderful as to pass the understanding. The mind is all-controlling not only over health, but over the temperament and the character."
