Eleven years ago, I was afflicted with a difficulty that physicians could not name. Briefly I will say that I employed the best medical practitioners the country could produce, and we had quite a number to choose from. After deriving no benefit, they advised me to seek a lower altitude,—the seashore,—and we spent a summer there. I consulted some of the best physicians in New York and Philadelphia. Another summer was spent at a sanitarium in New York State, without being healed. Some relatives importuned me to try Christian Science, but I assured them that I was in too bad condition to waste any time in that manner, for I considered Christian Scientists "crazy." However, what they said made an impression with me, and a few days later, ashamed to be seen going to a Christian Scientist. I went to see a practitioner, and from that day to the present, I have never refused to eat, and never had to lose one hour's time from inability to work, and no physician has ever crossed our threshold. For thirty years I was a habitual user of tobacco, and had tried almost everything known to materia medica to cure me of this habit, but failed. The practitioner asked me if I desired to get rid of the tobacco habit, and I assured him that I did, if the desire for it could be destroyed. However, at this time the tobacco habit was not overcome. I well remember the day after the election of Mr. McKinley. I was sitting in my office, and all at once I seemed impelled to go to a Christian Scientist and take treatment for this tobacco habit. I took three treatments and was healed. That has been six years ago, and I have never had any desire for tobacco since. Now of the two healings, I consider the last demonstration the greater. In the first instance I wanted to get rid of my suffering, but the second required a great sacrifice for me to make.—C., Denver, Col.
