I should like to send to our dear Sentinel one of my earliest demonstrations in Christian Science. I had been out one afternoon, and on returning home, I found that our baby boy was missing. The maid whom I had left in charge of the children said she had searched everywhere and could not find him. I learned from the other children that they had filled a trench with water in the yard and the baby had fallen into it, and on being lifted out had run and hidden himself in the house.
I found the child at last sound asleep under one of the beds; his wet clothes were clinging round him and the cold wind was blowing upon him from an open window. When I lifted him out, his flesh was cold and he began to shiver from head to foot. Mortal mind spoke loudly; but the voice of Truth came still clearer, declaring that matter could not take cold unless mortal mind said so. I changed the dripping garments and dried the little fellow with a towel. All the time the Truth came clearly through my consciousness. The battle was a long one, for, to sense, the child had taken a severe chill, but Truth was mightier than error, and finally prevailed. In about an hour and a half from the time I found him he was running around as merry as ever and there was not the slightest symptom of a cold to mark the occurrence. This to me was a most convincing proof of the practicability of Christian Science. I have had many wonderful proofs since, but that one always stands out as a landmark. I think it was all the more wonderful to me, since up to that time my greatest fear for the children was of their taking cold. I am very grateful for Christian Science, and my one prayer is that I may be worthy of the name I bear.—A. J., Montclair, Col.
