God Revealed

Christian Science is the religion of God. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," through its author the Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, is a revelation from God because it is a revelation of God. It has revealed God to thousands, nay millions, to whom, before they began to understand it, God was an unknown God, therefore, no God. He has been revealed to them as a healing and saving God, and many thousands, as the result of this revelation, have gone forth in the strength and might of this revealed God, to prove Him to the world; to show by actual works that He is at once a most High and a most Nigh God; a living, all-present God, not a dead or far-off God. They have proved, and are daily proving, Him to be the God who is Spirit, not a god of matter. They are proving Him to be the God who is the Divine Principle of all that is, not a god of impotent personality, circumscribed by corporeality, nor bound by time or space.

It is this understanding of God that heals and saves.

We say, therefore, that Christian Science, during its more than thirty years of existence, has proved itself to be a revelation of God. Whatever brings into human consciousness a higher and better conception of God is, in that sense, a revelation of Him. To the extent that such enlarged revelation can be made manifest in good works, to that extent have those who do the works a right to claim the revelation. Failure to do so would be cowardice and disobedience, By the very necessity of the revelation they must declare and prove it. Christian Scientists know this. Hence their zeal and apparent self-assurance. It is rather the assurance of unavoidable duty and profound conviction. A zeal born of the consciousness of God's moving grace,—a divine impulsion.
