No ifs, ands...or Buds?

Bud, a neighbor of mine, had become a real pain . . . in the “Bud”! Literally, it seemed! I found I had been developing a back pain every time I spent an afternoon with him. After an initial greeting, he would start a never ending list of complaints about his doctor, his friends, his relatives, his body aches and pains.

Here’s how it goes: I avoid him as much as possible, but we serve at a community garden where we meet and greet visitors. I try switching my day so that I don’t have to work with him, but unfortunately there isn’t another day available.

When I arrive a few minutes late, his first remark is, “So the octogenarian Lolita finally deigns to grace us with her presence!”
