Permanent joy
JOY! Doesn’t it just spill out of you, rippling into every corner of your experience like light chasing away darkness? Nothing can stop joy’s momentum. Worry, fear, and sadness suddenly lose the stage in our thinking and experience. That’s the sentiment of our cover stories this week: the joy that none (and nothing) can take away. It’s an echo of a well-loved hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal:
I walk with Love along the way,
And O, it is a holy day;
No more I suffer cruel fear,
I feel God’s presence with me here;
The joy that none can take away
Is mine; I walk with Love today.
(Minny M. H. Ayers, Hymn No. 139)
Joy is more than just a fleeting moment. True, pure joy comes from God who is Love, a permanent presence in our lives. We can claim our divine right to feel joy on a consistent basis. Yes, even when things look very bleak. Susan Ozanne writes in a cover story: “Rising above the clouds of material sense, we discern our God-given joy and dominion as reflections of divine Spirit. . . . we can’t ever be ‘lost in the fog’ ” (see “Hang gliding and the joy of healing,” p. 11). And for the first time, we offer a humorous story submitted for our “Lots of laughs” feature, cleverly written by Phyllis Zeno (see “No ifs, ands, or . . . Buds?” p. 10).
