I am very grateful that when I was a small child my mother was drawn to the teachings of Christian Science as a result of a healing of my own. After a case of scarlet fever an abscess formed on my knee and had necessitated an operation. After six weeks when the incision did not heal, an aunt who was staying with us at that time, and who was a student of Christian Science, asked if she might treat me through prayer. The result was a complete healing.

This was my mother's introduction to Science. My sister and I were placed in a Christian Science Sunday School, and during the years when we were growing up, we witnessed and experienced many fine healings. There were healings of so-called children's diseases, appendicitis, and broken bones. It was indeed rare that my mother called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, for our healings were brought about solely through her own reading and understanding of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

In my later years, and especially since my marriage and during the rearing of our own two children, my husband and I have been grateful for the consecrated help of practitioners when our own understanding has been insufficient to bring about a healing. One outstanding healing was of what appeared to be a broken collarbone.
