Angels for Allies

Mrs. Eddy asks, "It has long been a question of earnest import, How shall mankind worship the most adorable, but most unadored, —and where shall begin that praise that shall never end?" Miscellaneous Writings, p. 106; She answers her stirring question thus: "Beneath, above, beyond, methinks I hear the soft, sweet sigh of angels answering, 'So live, that your lives attest your sincerity and resound His praise.' " If we are to fulfill our reason for being, we must learn to listen to the angels of His presence and make them our companions, for they measure our motives and actions and lead to God.

In her writings Mrs. Eddy has revealed to humanity the true nature of angels. She unfolds their office and illustrates the way to companion with them. She defines "angels" as "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality." Science and Health, p. 581; Her understanding of the divine nature of these spiritual messengers must have been shared to some degree by the patriarchs of the Bible, for they also were acquainted with God's angels.
