Be pitiful, be courteous (I Pet. 3:8)

The Greek words translated "pitiful" and "courteous" have various other meanings. Goodspeed uses "tender-hearted, modest"; Weymouth, "tender-hearted, lowly minded"; Phillips, "generous and courteous"; and The New English Bible, "kindly and humble minded."
