When Christian Science first...
When Christian Science first came to me I was at a point in my life where I couldn't see the use of even living. One day, after I started studying Science, I was thinking about this and wondering why my life seemed so empty. I thought it was just like being in a desert. A cry seemed to go up from deep within me—Why? Why? Then clearly the answer came (Isa. 35:1), "The desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose." I was filled with joy and knew I had been given a promise that would be kept.
I continued to study, and God has indeed made the desert to "blossom as the rose" in my experience. My whole life has been transformed through my study of Christian Science. I am so grateful for the many lessons that I have learned, for the wonderful growth out of a human sense of existence into the divine sense of Life. And I am grateful for many physical healings and the lessons learned through them.
Shortly after I started studying Science, I became very ill. I insisted on having treatment from a practitioner. I also had a Christian Science nurse day and night. At one time when I seemed to be passing on, the nurse sat down beside me and said: "You know a small tree has such tender roots you can break them with your fingers—yet these same roots can grow through and crack a huge rock! That points to the law of Life, which is operating here and now!" I immediately revived and started breathing normally.
