Demonstrating Man's Unity with God

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 18), "Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage." As students of Christian Science we can pay no higher homage to our Master than to follow his example and prove in our own life practice the health, harmony, and happiness of man's unity with God.

Jesus' statement, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30), indicates that his prayers were based on a profound awareness of his indestructible relationship with God. He understood that man is one with the Father-Mother God, yet distinct as His perfect spiritual reflection. He realized the utter impossibility of a life apart from divine Life. The Master understood the spiritual forces of adhesion, cohesion, and attraction through which God holds all of His children in the harmony of oneness. He saw man, God's image, enfolded in but never absorbed by Love's allness.

Jesus demonstrated man's unity with God by conscientiously and consistently living the truths he taught, and so must we. In Science and Health we read of the Master, "He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did" (p. 51). In every circumstance Jesus turned to the Father for holy messages which would illumine his words and acts with Love. Because he entertained only Godlike thoughts, his consciousness was forever at one with Mind, divine Principle. We too, as we turn wholeheartedly to God, Mind, and reflect Him as we are taught to do in Christian Science, can prove increasingly the words of Paul (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being."
