The comfort and freedom I...

The comfort and freedom I gained while studying "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, were the beginning of a new way of living for me. Until that time I was dependent completely on self and the material way of thinking to work out my daily problems, but the statement taught me that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."

The events that followed the passing on of someone close to me seemed like giants to be battled with. There seemed to be an unending series of problems, and I needed physical rest after the nursing I had had to do. There came a sense of self-pity, a great sense of limitation, and a lack of self-sufficiency—my ideas seemed exhausted. I became mentally ill and also physically ill with a digestive difficulty after fear and resentment came into my thinking.

The Christian Science Monitor was presented to me by a friend. After reading the religious article I felt hope. After this I was led to read the other Christian Science periodicals, and my response to the spiritual import was instant.
