"Rejoice with me"

In the fifteenth chapter of Luke's Gospel is found a parable in which Jesus pictured a man with a hundred sheep who left the ninety-nine in search of one that was lost. Describing the man's pleasure at finding his lost sheep, the Gospel tells us, "And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost."

The familiar parable then concludes with the message that there shall be more joy in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

How many times have we attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a Church of Christ, Scientist, filled with the same kind of joy the shepherd felt when he recovered his lost lamb! Perhaps through our study of Christian Science we have overcome a physical difficulty and have been led from the valley of the shadow of death into God's green pastures. Or perhaps we have overcome a sense of lack, finding our completeness in the abundance of Spirit. Perhaps our peace of mind seemed lost through human turmoil and false hypotheses.
