The one thing that appealed to...
The one thing that appealed to me when I became a student of Christian Science was that Science stressed the importance of gaining a spiritual understanding of the Bible.
As I studied the Tenets of Christian Science on page 497 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I readily accepted the first one, which says, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." Also our Leader says (ibid., p. 241), "Take away the spiritual signification of Scripture, and that compilation can do no more for mortals than can moonbeams to melt a river of ice."
Before taking up the study of Science I was a faithful member of an orthodox church and was seeking to understand God and my relationship to Him, but many of my questions went unanswered. Now I could see why. I did not understand the spiritual meaning that was there to be brought out of the Bible and made practical in my experience.
