When Christian Science was...
When Christian Science was presented to me by a relative I was in a very depressed mental state. For almost two years I had been under the care of doctors, seeking relief for a condition that was diagnosed, in the beginning, as a kidney infection. As time went on and I submitted to the use of strong drugs, my entire body was affected. The last doctor who treated me recommended the removal of one kidney and warned me that it was a very serious operation. After this pronouncement I was haunted night and day by fear—the fear that I would never be well again.
While I was in this distressed state of mind a sister-in-law recommended to me that I try Christian Science, and she left me a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel. I was impressed by the sincere testimonies of healing that I read, and a new hope was born in me that I too might be healed. Soon I visited a practitioner, and she introduced me to the Lesson-Sermon, which is outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, and loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
In my trouble I had prayed to God in the best way I knew and had asked Him to help me. The awakening that came to me as I studied the Bible and the Christian Science textbook was proof that God had answered my prayer. In a few weeks I was ready to part with medicine and diet and to trust God to heal me. Immediately I experienced a mental and physical freedom that I had not known for months.
