RADIO PROGRAM No. 184 - When Your Child Asks About God, Part II

QUESTIONER: When a child begins to learn a little of what God is, that's only the beginning of his questions. He naturally wants to know what God knows and does about him himself and about people.

SPEAKER: Well, you remember we talked about thinking of God in terms of His qualities and that we need to help the child understand how to think of man in terms of qualities. Is man just what appears to the senses, or is there a great deal more to man? The Bible tells us in the first chapter of Genesis that "God created man in his own image" (verse 27). In the New Testament it says (John 1:3), "All things were made by him: and without him was not any thing made that was made." God did make man, but there's extensive evidence in the Bible that man in God's image is not material.

Incidentally, we understand the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible to be useful but an allegory. The true nature of man as God's spiritual image is given in the first chapter of Genesis.
