"Let your light so shine before...

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:16). I am a student of Christian Science today largely because of my wife's clear understanding of the demand of the above Bible verse. Through her demonstrations, I had for several years witnessed the solving of a variety of family and physical problems in our home; but I considered these as more the result of willpower and common sense than anything else. I was not interested in what I thought Christian Science represented.

Then our daughter was taken seriously ill with a stomach disorder and high fever. At my request she was examined by a doctor, who prescribed a medicine which would not stay on her stomach. After she had gone several days without any food, I became very fearful. At this point my wife's calm thought prevailed, and she asked me to allow her to work out the problem with Christian Science treatment. I consented, and a practitioner was immediately called. The doctor was not called in again.

After discussing the situation with my wife, the practitioner asked to talk with me. Among the loving, quiet words she voiced was the request for me to release the child from my fearful thought and to leave her in God's care. I was not sure what this meant, but I told her I would try.
