The Psalmist prayed, "Open...

The Psalmist prayed, "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law" (Ps. 119:18). Mankind has repeated this petition through the ages. Many of us have received an answer to this prayer when, through the study of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we have subscribed to the first tenet of The Mother Church, which reads (Science and Health, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

It is over fifty years since I became interested in the teachings of Christian Science, and I have daily turned to God for guidance in the affairs of my life. Among the physical healings I have had are those of ringworm, shingles, fatigue, painful gums, and, on several occasions, sprained ankles. A fear of bronchitis and asthma was overcome.

Sometimes I have had spiritual help and support from consecrated practitioners. More often a healing message from the Bible or from Science and Health has illuminated my outlook and led me to see that illnesses stem from our yielding to the temptation to give physicality a power which it cannot possess and which blinds us to the glory of God. A study of the temptations experienced by our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, as recorded in the fourth chapter of Luke's Gospel, helped me to understand that temptation is always an insidious thought trying to separate us from the knowledge of God's tender, all-embracing love.
