RADIO PROGRAM No. 73 - Are You Giving Your Children a Good Home?

HOST: Many parents wonder how to go about providing the right kind of home for their youngsters. In an article in The Atlantic Monthly Graham B. Blaine, Jr., emphasized that every youngster needs "a place which can be felt as home." He said, "This may be one small room or an entire estate, but it should be as permanent as possible and represent to the child a spot where he can always go— a sanctuary where his own private possessions are, a refuge which keeps away the rootless, floating feeling that can be so terrifying to a youngster."

Tell us, how can a parent or guardian help a youngster gain the feeling of security, the feeling of love and happiness, that really makes a home?

SPEAKER: When people talk about providing a good home, they often think of a house or an apartment of a certain size. Yet what a child needs most is the right kind of home atmosphere. The quotation you read spoke of "a spot where he can always go" for refuge. But if the parent or guardian can convey to him a sense of the divine presence and power, a sense of an ever-loving God to whom he can always turn for help, this gives the youngster a feeling of security he can take with him wherever he goes. The Master, Christ Jesus, you know, described God as a loving Father who cares for all His children.
