A College Student Writes

Putting God First

Today many people are taking courses to help them gain speed in getting their work done. Many businessmen take courses in speed reading that teach them how to read at a quick pace and still understand the ideas which are being presented. College students, housewives, and others seem to be looking for ways in which to accomplish more in one day. Seldom does one hear anybody say that he has lots of extra time.

The college student sometimes feels overburdened with work. Extra homework appears just when a term paper is nearly due. Then there are tests to study for and outside activities to keep up with. The burden sometimes seems to be overwhelming.

In Christian Science we learn that fear and uneasiness may be overcome with the realization that God is Life. Therefore all right motives and right activity stem from God the all-intelligent divine Mind. With God as the sole source of our activity, there is never a moment when we can feel tired or discouraged. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 454), "Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action," and elsewhere in the same hook she says (p. 253), "Matter can make no opposition to right endeavors against sin or sickness, for matter is inert, mindless"
