I am very grateful for the priceless facts I have learned through the study of Christian Science, of man in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, and the consequent nothingness of the claims of mortal or material sense. A number of years ago I had an outstanding experience through the application of these teachings.

In the course of my work, I had to open a large steam valve while standing on a horizontal jacketed steam pipe that was thirteen feet above the tile floor. I had been knowing the true state of man in the image and likeness of God while I was climbing up the ladder with a heavy steel bar in my hand. The bar was to be used as a pry to open the valve which had been tightly jammed shut against leakage.

I repeatedly declared the enveloping protection and allness of God while I tugged guardedly on the bar in such a way as to open the valve. Suddenly I felt the valve yield. Completely losing my balance. I was instantly falling head first, with the steel bar in my hands.
