Signs of the Times

The Reverend W. H. Bourne in Chichester and Southdown Observer Chichester, Sussex, England

We can find people whose peculiar pride lies in their continual restlessness and hurry. They consider it to be the evidence of their progressiveness. If only they knew the truth about themselves it would be seen as a tangle of tensions. They leave nothing to God. Everything in their affairs must be handled by themselves alone. The consequence is always strain and anxiety. The most impossible people to live with are the folks whose minds are restless in this way. Wherever they go they leave a trail of mingled gloom and relief. Gloom because of the jarring, and relief because of their going. The Bible assures us that strength is not in haste, but in quietness.

The Reverend John H. Schultz as reported in The Burlington Hawk-Eye Burlington, Iowa
