"Encompassed by divine presence"

Grateful are those people who know the encompassing presence of God, divine Mind. Whatever their human situation, wherever they may be, however they are separated by distance from friends, relatives, or co-workers, those who understand the omnipresence of Mind and its ideas know that they are not alone. Christian Science makes it clear that only thought, not place, can separate or unite individuals. No personal closeness can compare with the unity based upon a mutual love of Mind and a willingness to prove its presence.

Speaking to the alumni of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College in 1895, Mary Baker Eddy said (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 110), "Weeks have passed into months, and months into years, since last we met: but time and space, when encompassed by divine presence, do not separate us."

Time and space expressed in material distance cannot obstruct unity of spiritual ideals and purpose. Because the divine presence encompasses all, it transcends the limitations that humanity believes in. One sees this in the worldwide activity of The Mother Church and its branches. However far away branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, may be from The Mother Church, the same activity of unselfed love unites the members in one purpose—to demonstrate the truths revealed by Christian Science and to communicate them to mankind as fast as this is possible.
