Signs of the Times

From an article, "Alert Christianity"
in The Times
London, England

"The children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light." Jesus was on the look-out for disciples who would be not only innocent as doves but also wise as serpents. He told his followers to watch, more often than he told them to pray. He condemned those who missed opportunities by being only half awake or who fell into disaster through unwariness. The blind should not be allowed to lead the blind. In the days of Noah the people were very busy, he said. "They were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage"; but they did not notice the rising waters and they were destroyed.

No business would prosper if its policies were only those of drift. The successful businessman is one who has "all his eyes about him." ... The life of Christian discipleship is equally dedicated.
