One year, as the end of the fall...

One year, as the end of the fall semester of school was approaching, we were told by one of our teachers that our class should begin to prepare for the most exacting final examination we could ever imagine. As the weeks progressed the instructor continued to stress the importance and difficulty of the two-hour examination. He did this to such an extent that soon a sense of fear was developing in my thought as well as in the thought of the other students. Thoughts of injustice, cruelty, and dislike for the instructor accompanied this fear.

The weekend prior to the examination came, and as I sat studying my many pages of notes, I began to ask myself how I would ever pass the examination. In answering that question, I awoke to the realization of man's God-given intelligence and dominion. I knew that along with the human footsteps of study and review, it was important I see that in Science man is the perfect spiritual child of God, expressing love and justice.

I found many helpful truths through reading the Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Quarterly, and also the Christian Science periodicals. An article entitled "Overcoming Fear of Examinations" in the Sentinel was very beneficial. By knowing that "I can of mine own self do nothing" (John 5:30), I was released from thoughts of fear, loss of memory, or injustice.
