I was born with one foot deformed

I was born with one foot deformed. The doctors recommended that the bones of it should be broken and reset. They said that unless this was done I would be a cripple. Knowing nothing of Christian Science, my parents had this done. However, after wearing a cast, walking with crutches, and finally wearing a high laced shoe, I still walked crookedly. Christian Science later came into my life, and because of my study and application of its teachings, a correction and healing of the foot took place.

One time, while I was working, my feet and legs became very uncomfortable with a skin infection. I asked for the help of a Christian Science practitioner and prayed and studied myself. Two quotations were very helpful to me. One is from the Bible (Isa. 52:7), "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace." The other is from Science and Health. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 113, "There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain; no nerve in Mind, and no mind in nerve; no matter in Mind, and no mind in matter; no matter in Life, and no life in matter; no matter in good, and no good in matter." The condition disappeared as the practitioner and I continued to declare and to realize spiritual truths.

Some years ago as I took down a can from the cleaning shelf one day, a particle of the contents fell into my eye. The directions on the can advised one to call a physician immediately should such an accident occur. I tried to call a practitioner, but the line was busy; so I turned my thought to God, the great Physician. I silently realized that part of the definition of "eyes," which Mrs. Eddy gives on page 586 of Science and Health, reads, "Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." I knew too that God governs the real, spiritual man's entire action. The soreness disappeared, and my eye was unharmed.
