Church Dedications
Grocott's Daily Mail
Grahamstown, Cape Province, Republic of South Africa (First Church).
Christian Science was first introduced to Grahamstown in 1912. From 1913 services were held in different homes by a few persons interested in the study, and in 1919 the Masonic Hall in Hill Street was hired for services.
The group was recognised as a Christian Science Society in April, 1926, and as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Grahamstown, in March, 1956. Land was purchased in that year and building commenced in June, 1960, the first service being held in this church on September 3rd of that year.
With the aid of a grant from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy, all debt has been paid off the church, and we are now able to dedicate our building.—Grocott's Daily Mail (October 24, 1961).
