[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on June 18, 1961.]
Above the heavens (Ps. 8:1)
The Hebrew preposition 'al (here rendered "above") is used in a wide variety of senses. Another possible rendering would be "upon," and in that case the thought of the Psalmist might well be that God's glory had been emblazoned on the heavens by means of the heavenly bodies. Compare the familiar reference in Psalm 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God."
