TRUE SELFHOOD

Real entity is one with God;
It patterns Love's design;
True selfhood must reflect the One
Whose being is divine.
So when self-righteousness attempts
My consciousness to fill,
And thought is swayed by self-concern,
Self-interest, and self-will,
I turn at once from sense to Soul
And glimpse the perfect man,
The man whose being is sustained
By God's immortal plan,
My perfect self that is, that was,
Before the world began.
