WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT?

Many people have an earnest desire and a willingness to do first that which is most important. But what is most important? Individual concepts on the question vary greatly, influenced by education, background, and needs in the home, as well as by family, church, and business relationships.

Actually there is one thing most important for all of us. It is to put God, divine Mind, first in our hearts, our homes, and our businesses. One must also recognize error as unreal. More than one busy executive keeps on his desk the printed motto, "God first," and some teachers of children and young people keep a card with this motto in a desk drawer, which is opened frequently, to remind them of what is really important in education. Such a reminder is helpful and fruitful when one who heeds it has gained the true concept of God as divine Principle, Love, the Supreme Being, who is to be understood and not merely believed.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy makes an arresting statement on the subject of what is most important. She writes (p. 466): "Truth is immortal; error is mortal. Truth is limitless; error is limited. Truth is intelligent; error is non-intelligent. Moreover, Truth is real, and error is unreal. This last statement contains the point you will most reluctantly admit, although first and last it is the most important to understand."
