BUILDING FOR ETERNITY

The moment one accepts the truth revealed by Christian Science that individual life is the reflection of God, the only Life, and is not in frail flesh, one begins to build for eternity. He stops limiting the possibilities of life to matter and recognizes real being in the spiritual good an individual expresses, the justice, purity, truthfulness, and unselfed love he manifests.

According to the Science of Life, the consciousness of spiritual good is completely apart from the consciousness of matter, even though the two seem to exist side by side in human thought. And Science holds to the fact that the former is real and the latter unreal. It is obvious to one who sees this distinction that real being is not conditioned by matter and that the good presently seen in human character is the dawning evidence of man's ineffaceable identity as God's image. The individual consciousness of good is indestructible because it is inseparable from Life. Knowing its indestructibility, one loses his fear of death and begins to establish his dominion over it.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Unity of Good" (p. 40): "Death can never alarm or even appear to him who fully understands Life. The death-penalty comes through our ignorance of Life,—of that which is without beginning and without end, —and is the punishment of this ignorance."
