Los Angeles, California (Fourteenth Church).

Fourteenth Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles, California, located in Palms, ... will hold its dedicatory services tomorrow at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 8 p.m. A brief history of the church will be read. The public is invited to attend.

In 1917, twenty-six students of Christian Science met in the home of one of them to form a Christian Science Society. For a while services were held in a store building on Durango Avenue, and later, temporary quarters were obtained in the Masonic Temple, then located on Cardiff Avenue in Culver City.

In the year 1922, the group incorporated under the laws of the state of California and was recognized by The Mother Church as Fourteenth Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles. In this same year property was purchased at Watseka Avenue and Paris Drive for a new church building, where, on August 10, 1924, the first service was held.

In 1932 the structure was enlarged to accommodate the increased attendance at both the church services and the Sunday School. Dedication services were held ... in December of 1934.

Growth in church membership and attendance, and the need for more room for the Sunday School impelled the group to take steps for a more spacious church building. In 1945 and 1946 the present site at 3690 Motor Avenue, Palms, with its adjoining parking lot was purchased.

In September, 1951, ground was broken for the new building, and it was completed slightly more than a year later. The first service was held on Thanksgiving Day, 1952.

... The members of the church are grateful to all who have made this dedication possible, a church spokesman said.
