TEACH ME TO WAIT
This
be my prayer today:
Teach me to wait.
Teach me to let appear in its own time
The flower, close-furled in unimportunate bud.
Teach me, through the dark night,
To bide the sun's inevitable return.
Teach me to hold in trust
Spring's joyous, green renewal,
Even while winter locks the land in white.
Teach me, O God, to let Thy perfect work
Unfold in stately pattern, measured grace,
According to Thy plan.
Teach me the active patience that is fraught
With faith and hope and love:
Teach me to wait.
