SEEDTIME AND HARVEST

In the book of Genesis we read that God created man in His own image and likeness and that He made "the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew" (Gen. 2:4, 5).

Commenting upon the above quotation, Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 520), "Here is the emphatic declaration that God creates all through Mind, not through matter,—that the plant grows, not because of seed or soil, but because growth is the eternal mandate of Mind."

From time immemorial men have carried out the traditions of their elders. Preparing the soil, sowing the seed, watering, cultivating and caring for it until the harvest, only to begin again, has been the never-ending cycle of work to maintain material existence.
