My first healing in Christian Science...

My first healing in Christian Science took place over forty-one years ago. I have had many healings since, and I have relied on it entirely, not only in cases of physical ills but in meeting all the vicissitudes of life.

When I turned to Christian Science, I knew very little about it and that only from hearsay. I was sick and miserable, suffering from blinding headaches, backache, and nausea. A surgeon who had given me a careful examination said that I should be operated on immediately for an ovarian cyst. After I left the surgeon's office, the thought of Christian Science kept coming to me; so I went to a Reading Room and asked the attendant for the name of a practitioner. She showed me the names of those listed in The Christian Science Journal, and I selected the one whose address was nearest to my home.

One of the first questions I asked the practitioner was this: "Would I imagine I was healed?" She laughed and said that I would be well and know it. She also told me that nothing could separate me from God; this impressed me very much, because God had seemed very far away. She agreed to take the case, and when I left she said, "Go home and be happy." It seemed very foolish to me, but I was willing to try at least.
