A few years ago I was faced with...

A few years ago I was faced with what seemed to be insurmountable difficulties. Domestic trouble had broken up my home, there was a young child to be taken care of, business difficulties demanded long hours away from home, and I was in need of physical healing. Constant study of the Bible brought hope.

Each day I prayed as earnestly as I knew how, and then one day I found myself in a Christian Science Reading Room. It was my introduction to this Science, which I had never heard about before, although I had worked in the city for thirty years.

After reading for a while the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I felt that at last I had found an answer to my prayers. Although not understanding much of what I read, I had a strong feeling that this truth could solve my problems. It was not until some time later that I realized I had let God take control.

That same evening material remedies were dispensed with, and all medical treatment was discontinued. The peace and the calm of the Reading Room were a constant comfort during this time. The strong words of truth from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook were a great help, especially those in the passage from Proverbs which reads (3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths," and from Science and Health (p. 254), "When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path."

A stand had been taken, and with the loving help of a practitioner many changes began to take place. A suitable home was quickly found, a boarding school for my child convenient to the home was located, and in a most unexpected way the domestic problem was solved, and business affairs began to be adjusted.

However, the physical condition yielded slowly and took several years. One Wednesday evening at a testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I testified to the benefit I was receiving from Christian Science, although the physical healing had not been completed; but as in the case of Jesus, who gave thanks to God before he raised Lazarus, I gave thanks to God, and the complete and permanent healing followed quickly afterwards.

It is not possible to find words which are adequate to express my unbounded gratitude. Today I can rejoice in the words of Paul, "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift" (II Cor. 9:15). —Leonard Ernest Watson, Northenden, Manchester, England.
