At a time when I was in utter despair and was harboring a sense of self-condemnation over what seemed to be a ruined career and a hopeless existence, I turned to a then unknown God and prayed, "Father, I no longer care if I am happy or not, just let everyone else be happy."

A short time later a dear sister whose life had been changed from sorrow to joy through the teachings of Christian Science told me of the sustaining spiritual truths that had brought her freedom. I shall never forget the blessed relief that came to me when she explained the spiritual fact, found in the teachings of Christian Science, that God is ever-present Love and that in reality there is no evil from which to suffer. Instantly I gained new hope and realized that here was the God that I could know, love, and serve. My despondency was immediately turned into joy.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes (p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way."
