When I was a young woman I...

When I was a young woman I suffered from sick headaches. These would cause me to spend days in bed. I knew nothing of Christian Science at this time, but in the place where I worked, there was a young woman who was interested in it, and she recommended that I talk to a neighbor who was a student.

The neighbor advised me to see a practitioner and assured me that prayer as taught in Christian Science would help me. I chose a practitioner who lived near my home and asked her to help me.

In about a week I was completely healed. I also had a healing of an internal difficulty. I have never had a return of these conditions. I am grateful for the joy, peace, and spiritual uplift that I have experienced in this freedom from suffering.

Last summer, while doing the lunch dishes, a cloth with which I was wiping the stove caught on fire; and before I knew it my clothes were also burning, and I was unable to put out the fire.

During this time I kept knowing and declaring aloud, "There is no power apart from God" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 228) until the fire burned itself out.

As soon as I could, I walked to a neighbor's to call a practitioner who lived in another city. The woman in his office said, "He is not in, but I will relay the message to him."

I returned home; and in a few moments I knew the practitioner had received the message, for the pain stopped entirely. I sat down and wrote the practitioner a letter of gratitude.

My whole left side and arm were burned, and I believe these burns would have been classified as third degree burns. It was some time before the physical manifestation of healing took place. However, I "was about my Father's business most of this time. Now I am doing all my own work and saying, "Thanks be to God for His ever-present goodness and power."

I will never cease to be grateful for my loving friends who introduced Christian Science to me. I am thankful for the practitioners, who help us to see God's allness so clearly. Also I want to express gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who gave us this wonderful truth.—(Mrs.) Mabel Grace Weatherford, Kansas City, Missouri.
