While I was yet a very young child, my mother found Christian Science and was healed of a kidney complaint diagnosed as incurable. Following this exalting experience, she became an earnest student of Christian Science, searching in its study for an understanding of the truths which had healed her and for the guidance she needed in rearing her family.

In those days we traveled extensively, and much of my early education was undertaken by my mother, who included the Bible and Science and Health by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, among my daily textbooks. Many assignments in reading and writing were taken from these precious volumes, and I have always felt that they provided a twofold blessing to my childhood, for they furnished practical instruction and, above all, healing, protection, and comfort.

As I grew into young womanhood, however, worldly attractions took the place of childlike trust, until finally, weary and disappointed, the empty promises of mortal mind became self-evident to me, and a longing and need to return to the demonstrable truths taught in Christian Science were again felt.
