THE STRENGTH OF PURITY

The preparation of armaments, while essential for defense at the present stage of human development, points to the need of the higher understanding of defense to be found in Christ, the spirit of Truth. This spiritual defense wipes out enmity, the basic element of the suppositional carnal mind, and thus the Christ-power is destined to outmode organized destruction.

A purely spiritual defense cannot be prematurely urged upon the free world. But every Christian Scientist should be expressing in his own character the strength of purity that defies armies. He knows that the dominating moral character of a nation, not its material potentials, gives it strength and that physical power cannot cope with spiritual might.

Where can true strength be found but in God? And from God alone comes the purity which defines the measure of that strength. Through Christ, acting perpetually in human consciousness, is revealed the scientific purity which surpasses moral innocence, demonstrating the nothingness of matter, sin, and all destructiveness. This kind of purity knows Spirit, God, as All, understands law as divine force, and sees every individual as, in truth, God's likeness, completely governed by Him.
