Christian Science was presented to my parents when I was about six years old. As a result, my mother was healed of a stomach disorder. Both parents became earnest students, and I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School.

Although in my late teens, smoking and social drinking seemed more important than regular Sunday School attendance, I have since been very grateful for the good foundation laid in those early years. Eventually both drinking and smoking were abandoned.

Social drinking only required a "No, thank you," for I had never really enjoyed it; but the habit of smoking eight to ten cigars a day was healed only when the firm decision was made that what I wanted most was membership in a branch church, not cigars. That was over twenty-five years ago. There has never been a return of the desire to smoke.
