THE AUTHORITY OF THE CHRIST

Picture a little ship riding the tumultuous waves of the sea, beaten by violent winds, seemingly helpless under the awesome spell of the turbulent elements. A small group of voyagers aboard fear for the safety of the ship. One of them sleeps. He is Christ Jesus. The others approach him in great anxiety, and with consternation they say (Matt. 8:25), "Save us: we perish."

Jesus rises, but he does not fear. He sees what the elements would try to do, but he stills them. And once more peace prevails, and the little craft sails a smooth sea to its chosen destination. Such was the authority of the Christ as demonstrated by Jesus.

How like the little ship, tossed about by an angry sea, is the individual in need of healing! How like these voyagers are those who stand in great fear of troubled times! But now, as then, the Christ can still the tempest and calm the sea of fear.
