ARE YOU SPENDING OR WITHHOLDING?

Much has been written during recent months about the recession in the economic affairs of the world. Many business authorities are agreed that the situation was in part psychological, a state compounded of caution, anxiety, and a wait-and-see attitude.

A Christian Scientist learns to turn to God at all times and under all circumstances, confident that the right answer to any situation is to be found in the divine Mind, God, the one intelligence which creates and governs all. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."

The word "recession" denotes a slowing down of commercial and industrial activity, a withdrawal. These are mental qualities expressed in the affairs of men. The cure for a receding condition is an advancing one. The cure for withholding is Spending, loaning, investing, all require activity, mental activity. Therefore in meeting a claim of recession, one must resolve "things into thoughts," and exchange "the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul," a procedure which is fundamental to the practise of divine metaphysics.
