REFUSE TO BE TRICKED

The teaching of the Scriptures that man is the image and likeness of God bases man's immutability, his innocency of sin and error of all kinds. The awakening to one's spiritual selfhood as the expression of God, Christian Science proves, brings great freedom to the individual who may have been educated to believe that he is a sinner or a sickly mortal. The truth of his spiritual individuality and identity operates to free him from beliefs associated with the claim that he is an erring mortal.

Through her keen sense of spiritual reality, Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 428), "To divest thought of false trusts and material evidences in order that the spiritual facts of being may appear, this is the great attainment by means of which we shall sweep away the false and give place to the true."

To appreciate fully the goodness of God, the individual must grow into the recognition of what constitutes his real being and not be deceived by a suppositional mortal self. This mortal self needs to be progressively disbelieved and rejected, and man as the spiritual reflection of God must become more real to the individual.
