Activities for the Armed Services

Co-operating with Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services are eight Christian Scientists who are commissioned Chaplains in the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force. These men are stationed in Korea, Alaska, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, and France.

Within a year our Navy Chaplain was promoted to lieutenant commander, and one of our Army Chaplains to captain. In the Army and Air Force, we have Chaplains with the rank of major.

According to United States Armed Forces regulations, the primary duty of these men is to serve as Protestant Chaplains. Secondarily, they are to meet the needs of Christian Scientists in uniform. To accomplish this purpose, they keep in communication with the Christian Scientists in the service, distribute Christian Science literature, hold Christian Science services, and give free Christian Science treatment to those in need of help. Some of them arrange for Christian Science Sunday Schools. One provides nursery facilities so that the parents of small children can attend the Christian Science church services.
