"ONE LONE, BRAVE STAR"
The Christmas story is precious to all Christians. It portrays the advent of a child whose teachings were later to shake world thought and give to humanity the way to the enjoyment of health and happiness, to the demonstration of "on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:14).
Long had the followers of the Mosaic law looked for the promised Messiah. Perhaps many searchers expected this Christly messenger to appear in a way that would be consistent with the idea of a human monarch and with the pomp and ceremony which characterized temple worship. Perhaps it was the quietness and modesty of the appearance of Jesus that hid from materialists his true character as the Christ, God's eternal Son.
Mere temporal glory, Christian Science makes clear, does not attend the coming of the Christ, the light of Truth, to human consciousness. The Christ is not physical. It is the eternal, healing, saving ideal of God, divine Life, Truth, and Love. This light of God is not temporal or destructible. It is mighty in tenderness. It is ever present in human thought to direct the individual to higher aims and actions.
