ADULT EDUCATION

A report has just been issued in the United States of America setting forth a comprehensive plan of adult education for its citizens. This report has been prepared by a group of public-spirited citizens who have been supplied with an ample fund to put into effect the program which they have planned.

The directors of The Fund for Adult Education indicate that there are too many citizens in the United States and in other countries who cannot write, read, speak, or listen effectively. They do not adequately understand the way of living in a free society; neither are they prepared to take their part in public affairs, nor do they understand how other people live on the face of the globe.

In their report the directors of the Fund state that their special task is "that of supporting programs of liberal adult education which will contribute to the development of mature, wise and responsible citizens who can participate intelligently in a free society." And they are particularly interested in opportunities for developing public leaders, especially among young men and women.
