Through studying the Scriptures in the light of Christian Science, I have been able to maintain a correct appreciation of God's spiritual laws, and problems connected with business, human relationships, and health have invariably been adjusted harmoniously.

During World War II, while serving with an Army Division drawn from British Colonies in Africa, I had the option in 1942 of either returning to the United Kingdom or going on to India. I chose the latter course and eventually began training in jungle warfare in a wild and deserted area of central India. It soon became evident that our training was of a special nature, and this was confirmed when it was learned that our brigade came under the command of a well-known general, who was the leader of long-range penetration groups behind the enemy lines in Burma.

One of my duties during this training period was water inspection and control, and this involved lengthy walks to the various camps through the thick shrub of the area. One day, while walking alone, I was tempted to review the prospects ahead with some foreboding and also to rehearse the immediate discomforts of my present experience. Checking this train of thought, I endeavored to turn over in my mind a beautiful Bible passage which had already proved of inspiration in the past. It was (Mal. 3:10), "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
